Tegla Loroupe and Paul Tergat Update
We regret to announce that we have recently learned that Tegla Loroupe and Paul Tergat will be unable to attend this year's Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger. Tegla has had a change in her plans leading up to her running in this year's New York City Marathon on November 4. She is now required to land in the US much closer to the date of the Marathon than we both had originally hoped, precluding her coming to Croton on October 21. Paul has been called to a mandatory service with the Kenyan Army during this time period and so will also not be able to come to the US in October. Both send their regrets and look forward to being able to visit Croton and come for next year's race. Our fund raising efforts for building a kitchen at Tegla's planned Peace Academy in Kapenguria, Kenya remain unchanged.

The Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger seeks to focus attention on hunger and poverty issues and raise money for hunger relief both locally and overseas with a competitive 10K race and a community oriented Fun Run for children and families.
This year through the efforts of former Croton resident and now US State Department Officer Robert Kerr, we have linked up with two Kenyan marathon stars: Tegla Loroupe, two time NYC Marathon winner; and Paul Tergat, NYC Marathon winner in 2004, on a humanitarian project dear to Tegla's heart. In recognition of this developing relationship the Run Against Hunger has decided to make a substantial contribution toward building a kitchen at Tegla's planned Peace Academy in Kapenguria, Kenya.
The one mile Fun Run (12 Noon start time) goes through the local neighborhood, starting at Veteran's Corners and finishing at Croton-Harmon High School, allowing everyone to participate. Walkers are welcome. All finishers receive a custom medal. Entertainment & refreshments at the Finish.
The 10K road race (12:30pm start) takes a scenic route over historic Croton Dam, with start and finish at Croton Harmon High School. A course map for this year's traditional course is available here. Race T-shirt for first 300 runners designed by Encore Sales of New York. Trophies awarded to the top three finishers in nine age group categories.
